Work Permit Verification Exercise Launched in Kenya
The Kenya Department of Immigration Services has today, 21st May 2018, launched a mandatory work permit verification and e-registration exercise for foreign nationals residing and working in Kenya. This is in line with the commitment the Cabinet Secretary made to the Parliamentarians when he appeared before the Committee responsible for security affairs on 20th April 2018. The objective of this exercise is to issue e-Permits to every expatriate in Kenya.
The verification exercise was formally launched by the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government, Dr Fred Matiang’i. The exercise would be expected to run for a two months period up to 21st July 2018. The verification process will be conducted on working days (Monday through to Friday) at the Immigration Offices, Nyayo House, Nairobi, starting from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The Immigration department has indicated that those expatriates who will fail to have their work permits verified within the indicated timeline will have their permits rendered invalid. You will therefore appreciate the gravity of the exercise and plan accordingly to attend well in advance of the deadline.
What will be required for the verification process
All expatriates holding valid work permits are required to appear in person at the Department of Immigration Services offices, Nyayo House, Nairobi, for biometric finger printing and photo registration. The supporting documents to be presented at the venue of the exercise would include:
- Original Work Permit;
- Valid endorsement of the Work Permit on the expat’s Passport;
- Valid Foreigner Certificate (Alien Card) or Waiting Card (where the Foreigner Certificate is yet to be issued);
- Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) PIN Certificate;
- Work Permit payment receipts (We have a record of all receipts for payments made on your behalf. We shall coordinate this).
