Immigration Status Update
In the wake of eased Covid-19-related restrictions and resumption of international travels, the Government of the Republic of Kenya through the Directorate of Immigration Services, recently released further guidelines to foreign nationals residing in the country, lifting an earlier amnesty which allowed visitors to stay in the country beyond the stipulated six (6) months.
In light of the above, the following measures have been advised to all foreign nationals residing in the country with effect from 14 September 2020:
- That all Visas/Passes/Permits be regularized within two (2) weeks with effect from the above date.
- That all foreign nationals with no valid status and no intention of regularizing their immigration status depart from the country within two weeks with effect from the above date.
Accordingly, the amnesty period granted by the Government of the Republic of Kenya will expire on 28 September 2020, and any foreign national who continues staying in the country without regularizing their immigration status would be committing an offence which attracts penal consequences.
